Jean Larrivee take seriosly when finding his right tone woods for any single piece of Larrivee guitars
To find the best wood for a guitar, he travels the globe – hiking mud-drenched trails to select Koa from Hawaiian mountainsides, striding the log booms of the Pacific Northwest to find premium spruce, or selecting mahogany and rosewood from South America, India or Africa.

The search is painstaking, and sometimes we come up empty-handed. Only one in a hundred spruce logs yields suitable tone wood for producing guitars. And only one in a hundred of those is accepted by Larrivée. We don’t make a “big deal” about the fact that we often harvest logs that are naturally fallen; that’s just the way we’ve always done it, that’s the respect we have for the resource.

Because we take so much pride in the wood we use, we cannot always guarantee that we have these woods in stock for an order. Other makers will just call up a supplier and order a set of "any old wood", we on the other hand will not use a set of wood unless it is the right set. The grain, color, rigidity, and weight all have to be just right in order for us to build it
L-03 sound
  • L body produce very nice balance sound in general, regardless the back/side tone woods material, this is a very unique one of a kind Larrivee's signature body style, no one else (luthier guitar makers) does the L-shape body. Larrivee invented this body size & bracing specification after listened from many "Recording Artist" who has been struggling to express finger-style plucking mid-tones in their Drednought or Grand-Auditorium guitars ... the answer lies on L series
  • There are slightly variance among the same L body if the back/side are between the Mahogany and Indian Rosewood. The Mahogany tone woods will influence warmer sounds in general with powerfully deep bass tone with crisp & clear mid and high tones. Feedback from most of clients who purchased L-03 Mahogany that it is a good strumming acoustic guitar with the extra clarity on mid up to high frequency tones. The Rosewood tone woods applies on L-body will increase it's cosmetic looks, resale value on top of the previously above mentioned with sweet, rich of higher tone frequency harmonic and tremendeous clarity on every single strings tone seperation
  • Although L-body dimension are slightly smaller compare to typical Dreadnought / Western guitar but overall typical L-03 volume not neccessarily smaller output than any dreadnought guitars, if you do not believe it, bring your existing guitars, while jamming with us, we will compare it side by side with our Larrivee L Series collection so you fully understood where are the tone types & clarity differences. It is impossible to write every single Larrivee's timbre & overall experience when playing these amazing acoustic guitars.
When you test, strum these Larrivee guitars, you will get the idea clearly what we (or other people/ the owners of Larrivee guitars) are talking about.
L – body's neck shape and dimension
It is important to pay attention on the neck’ shape & dimension, every Larrivee guitar shapes comes with slightly different detail specification to cater for different set of guitarist’ needs.
Width at nut = 1.75 inches (45.3 mm)
Width at neck joint body = 2.22 inches (56.4)
The width at nut is the choice of guitarist who love to mix between strumming and finger-style melody plucking, the size is just slightly wider than Dreadnought’ neck dimension.
Note : there are many external & inner views of this model from different angle, enjoy to view the images, amaze how beautiful the Larrivee guitar's workmanship is. Pictures are copyrighted :  Luthier Guitar, SGP.
